Utah CDL Skills Test Locations
Checked Oct 26, 2026 Official source: Utah Department of Public Safety, Driver License Division (DLD)
Utah gives CDL driving skills tests two ways: at 12 Driver License Division offices by appointment, or with one of 26 DLD-approved third-party testers. At a DLD office you bring your own registered, road-ready vehicle.
Who gives the test in Utah
The DLD tests at its own offices (the Farmington, Logan and Tooele offices do not process CDLs) and also certifies third-party tester companies whose examiners give the skills test. Third-party testers set their own fee and submit results electronically to the DLD. As of January 20, 2026, Utah has paused issuing non-domiciled CDLs.

How to schedule the skills test
- Pass the CDL written knowledge tests at a DLD office to get a CLP, valid for 180 days. Tests are in English only and need 80% to pass. (dld.utah.gov)
- Hold the CLP for 14 days and complete Entry-Level Driver Training before you can take the skills test. (dld.utah.gov)
- Book a DLD skills test online by office from the CDL skills test scheduling page, or contact a third-party tester directly. (dld.utah.gov)
- The skills test has three parts: pre-trip inspection, basic control skills (8 or fewer error points to pass) and the road test (30 or fewer error points). (dld.utah.gov)

- Test in a vehicle with air brakes and a manual transmission to avoid an air brake or automatic-only restriction. (dld.utah.gov)
Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT)
- You must complete Entry-Level Driver Training before scheduling the CDL skills test. (dld.utah.gov)
- Applicants who qualify for the military skills-test waiver are also exempt from ELDT. (dld.utah.gov)

Tips
- The Farmington, Logan and Tooele DLD offices do not process CDLs.
- Veterans honorably discharged in the past year who drove a CMV in the military may qualify for a skills-test waiver.
- The DLD third-party list gives city and phone only, so call to confirm the test location.
