Texas CDL Skills Test Locations
Checked Oct 23, 2026 Official source: Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), Driver License Division
Texas gives CDL skills tests at designated DPS testing sites (34 on the current DL-95 list), by appointment only, plus nine mobile CDL testing teams and about 187 authorized Third-Party Skills Testing (TPST) providers that test their own students and employees.
Who gives the test in Texas
Three options: a designated DPS CDL testing site; a DPS mobile team for customers more than 50 miles from a fixed site (requested through the local Driver License Operations Manager, mainly for colleges, school districts and fire departments); or an authorized TPST provider if you are its student or employee. DPS counted 187 TPST providers as of August 2025.

How to schedule the skills test
- DPS sites test Class A and B by appointment only. Book the skills test through the DPS Driver License appointment system after your CDL application is complete. (dps.texas.gov)
- Hold your CLP for 14 days before you can apply for the Class A or B CDL and take the skills test. (dps.texas.gov)
- Your vehicle must pass a safety check before the test: registration, insurance, inspection, lights, signals, horn, wipers, belts and brakes (including the air brake check for Class A and B, if equipped). (dps.texas.gov)
- All CDL skills tests (pre-trip, basic control, road test) are given in English. Since June 1, 2026 the knowledge tests are English-only too. (dps.texas.gov)
- If you fail, your application is held for 90 days from the first application. After 90 days or three failed tests you must reapply and pay again. (dps.texas.gov)

Tips
- Leon Valley tests Class B only, and Junction tests on Wednesdays only. Check the notes column.
- Del Rio and Wichita Falls still use the 2005 test; every other DPS site uses the modernized CDL skills test.
- If you train at a school that is an authorized TPST provider, you can test with the school or at DPS.
