Louisiana CDL Skills Test Locations

Checked Oct 23, 2026 Official source: Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles (OMV)

In Louisiana the CDL skills test (pre-trip inspection, basic vehicle control and on-road driving) is given by OMV-approved third-party testers: truck driving schools, community colleges, parish school systems and some employers. OMV's public tester list below shows each one's classes, address, phone and whether it rents a test vehicle.

How to schedule the skills test

1. Pick a tester from the OMV list that tests your class (A, B or C) and, if you need one, rents a vehicle. Call the tester to book the skills test; OMV lists a phone number for each. (dpsweb.dps.louisiana.gov)
2. You cannot take the skills test in the first 14 days after your Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) is first issued. (expresslane.la.gov)
3. The skills test has three segments: vehicle inspection, basic vehicle control and on-road driving. (expresslane.la.gov)
4. Knowledge tests and license issuance are handled at OMV; OMV takes appointments online. (la.omvappointments.com)

What to bring

• A valid Class A, B, C, D or E license issued by the same state that issued your CLP. (expresslane.la.gov)
• Medical certification by an examiner on the FMCSA National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners. (expresslane.la.gov)
• A completed CDL Supplemental Form (DPSMV2211). (expresslane.la.gov)
• Proof of Louisiana residency, for example a voter registration card, lease, utility statement, W-2 or insurance policy showing your name and Louisiana address. (expresslane.la.gov)
• For the skills test itself: the right class of vehicle, either your own or one rented from the tester if it offers rentals. (expresslane.la.gov)

Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT)

• Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) applies if you are getting a Class A or B CDL for the first time, upgrading Class B to A, or adding a school bus (S), passenger (P) or hazmat (H) endorsement for the first time. (expresslane.la.gov)
• OMV says you may be required to complete ELDT before taking the skills test. For hazmat, training comes before the written test if you have never held the endorsement. (expresslane.la.gov)
• Training must come from a provider listed on FMCSA's Training Provider Registry. (tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov)

Tips

• Ask the tester whether it tests outside applicants or only its own students and employees.
• If you don't have a truck, filter the list for testers that rent a tractor-trailer, straight truck or bus.
• A CLP lasts up to 180 days and can be extended once for another 180 days at no charge (360 days maximum).
